"South Australian Rail Heritage Journal No. 1"

By Steve McNicol & George Rogers

Paperback cover 32 pages black/white photos

INTRODUCTION

After a number of years trying to decide the future for our Narrow Gauge Journal and Broad Gauge Journal series we have now decided to discontinue both of them and replace them with South Australian Rail Heritage Journal. It is not because there was any shortage of content, in fact the amount of material has multiplied significantly in the last twelve months alone, but it was felt that a fresh new look was needed.

In producing South Australian Rail Heritage Journal we cover broad, standard and narrow gauge all in the one volume as well as railway infrastructure, tramways and small industrial lines. The page size has been increased to what is now our standard book size - 170mm x 240mm which enables us to have slightly bigger photographs, but the content remains the same - with a strong emphasis on historial items.

In the past we haven't relied so heavily on information from official sources but in this new series we make much more use of resources helf by State Records of South Australia, but we will still rely on personal accounts so that we do not lose the human touch.

In closing my thanks go to George Rogers who has made available his years of archival research to provide us with information for many interesting topics in the years ahead.

Thanks also to everyone else involved in getting this first book in a new series 'off the ground'.
