"Mini Profile Series No. 11 - Richmond Vale - A Railway Pictorial"

By Steve McNicol

Paperback cover 24 pages colour photos

 INTRODUCTION

In this small pictorial we take a random look at the remains of the Richmond Vale Railway over the past 45 years and its resurgance an an operating museum between Richmond Main and Pelaw Main.

By 1970 the railway had already been reduced to service only the one colliery at Stockrington and the track had become a single line operation between Hexham and Stockrington. The colliery at Pelaw Main had been closed since 1961. The substantial engine shed at Pelaw Main and Browns showpiece colliery at Richmond Main met the same fate in 1967. The railway link between Richmond Main and Pelaw Main was also removed around the same time.
