INTRODUCTION
Very few railcars in modern times have had such a following and been held in such high esteem as the Jumbos. With their demise at the end of 2015 and mass scrappings in June 2016 a new generation of followers emerged.
The name Jumbo was penned early in their lives as their modern styliing, size and in particular the raised driving cabins could be related to the Boeing 747 'Jumbo' jets of the time. In fact they dwarfed their predecessors the Redhens, being both longer and higher. They were also referred to by some as the 'Supertrains'.
