INTRODUCTION

Throughout 1980 a thorough testing program was undertaken as the new railcars were delivered from Comeng;s Dry Creek facility. Being connected to the Northfield branch the Gawler line was regularly used for this purpose, but on at least one occasion a Jumbo set ran to Virginia. On 28th August 1980 a set comprising of 2103, 2001 and 2101 ventured onto the Port Pirie line as far as Virginia, undertaking brake tests near direk on the down journey.

By the end of March 1981 all but four of the Jumbo railcars and trailers were in service. Final testing of power car 2011 took place on the Gawler line on 21st May and again on the 22nd, after it had been coupled to trailer car 2117. They both entered traffic on 3rd June that year.
