INTRODUCTION

To most people who have an interest in railways, Yass Junction and the Yass Town branch line, really needs no introduction. Yass Junction epitomises a main line country station while Yass Town has the less hurried feel of a small country branch line.

Yass Junction station is located on the Main South line, which is part of the Sydney to Melbourne main line. It is situated outside the town and was opened on 3rd July 1876. It was originally named Yass, but with the opening of the tramway was renamed Yass Junction.
