"Stations Remembered - SAR - Blyth & Brinkworth"

By Steve McNicol

Paperback cover 24 pages black/white photos

INTRODUCTION

In this book we continue heading north on the railway line to gladstone and cover two townships: Blyth and Brinkworth. Blyth was reached by a 13 mile 41 chain extension of the line from Hoyleton, which opened on 1st March 1878. It was originally built to the narrow gauge but was converted to broad gauge in the mid 1920s.

Brinkworth was the first junction station after leaving Balaklava and was part of the 43 mile 28 chain extension from Blyth to Gladstone, which opened on 2nd July 1894. On the same day another railway line of 12 miles 65 chains between Snowtown and Brinkworth (linking directly to Kadina via Bute) was also opened.
