Main South Review Pt 5 is the final part of a review of operations, operators and infrastructure on the Main South Line (or for Victorian residents on the Victorian North East Rail Corridor) covering both the standard and broad gauge tracks between the town of Kilmore and Southern Cross railway station in Melbourne.

In addition to the major standard gauge freight operations of PacNat and QR National (the latter now renamed Aurizon) we see the participation of QUBE and EL Zorro. VLine also now operates 3 daily passenger services between Albury and Melbourne. Whilst the standard gauge is single track between Seymour and Melbourne, several passing loops have been extended and a new passing loop added at Kilmore East to expediate travelling time.

We also visit both the QR National and QUBE Dynon yards and Melbourne’s Southern Cross railway station which remains a train watcher’s delight, with still many VLine locomotive hauled passenger services operating.

Locomotives seen in this presentation include A, BL, EL, G, GL, N, NR, X, XR, T, Y, 442, 81 and 93 class in the liveries of CFCLA, Coote Industrial, El Zorro, Fright Australia, PacNat, QR National (Aurizon), SCT, Victorian Railways (be these Seymour Railway Heritage Centre or SteamRail Victorian owned) and VLine whilst passenger traffic includes electric passenger rolling stock, Velocities, Sprinters and locomotive hauled passenger cars in the liveries of CountryLink, Metro and VLine.

Approximate run time: 89 minutes.
