Trackside Videos’ presentation ‘The Main South Line Pt1’ was produced back in 2008 and covered the history of the development of the Main South line between Campbelltown and Goulburn, and operation of trains on that section of track up to 2008. Operators included Austrac, Freight Australia, FreightCorp, National Rail, Pacific National and VLine. By the time ‘Main South Review Pt1’ was produced in 2011, Austrac had gone bankrupt, the merged National Rail and FreightCorp entity PacNat had acquired the assets of both ATN Access and Freight Australia, Queensland railways (renamed QR National) had taken over Interail assets and both QR National/ARG and El Zorro had entered into the NSW grain haulage business.

In this presentation, ‘2017 Main South Revisited Pt1’, we view operations on the same section of track in the 2017 era. QR National has been rebadged as Aurizon, QUBE has taken over the assets of Independent Rail and introduced an intermodal service, PacNat continue to dominate limestone, aggregate (stone) and garbage haulage and SCT have introduced their own freight train operations, no longer using Aurizon for motive power. We divert off the main line at Picton to see the changes that have occurred on the old Picton-Mittagong Loop Line, viewing older motive power at the Thirlmere NSWRTM facilities and later the sad demise of the Bradford Kendall facilities at Braemar. At Goulburn we visit both the CFCLA facilities and the Goulburn Roundhouse Museum. Locomotives seen in operation include CM, LDP, NR, QBX, VL, 48, 81, 82, 93 and 6000 Class whilst passenger equipment includes Endeavour, Explorer and XPTs.

Approximate run time: 99 minutes.
