PUBLISHER'S NOTE
We've thought about it for long enough, too long in fact, now finally we have decided to produce a Broad Gauge Journal. Based on the Narrow Gauge Journal series this publication is the first of two 'pilot' issues to see if there is enough interest to continue the series. Like the Narrow Gauge series there is plenty of information and subject material for a never ending number of books.
While the Narrow Gauge Journal series covers not only the former South Australian Railways narrow gauge lines but also those of the Commonwealth Railways, Silverton Tramway and other private railways we thought the Broad Gauge Journal series should also extend beyond the SAR. In this case we have both the Victorian Railways and the SAR with a common broad gauge of 5ft 3in as well as a number of industrial and preserved railways in both states. It should prove an interesting mix of articles.
