INTRODUCTION
This collection of photos of the Main Western railway line from Lithgow to Bathurst, with a few diversions in between, mainly concentrates on Lithgow, Wallerawang and Bathurst. It attempts to consolidate views of this part of the New South Wales railway network in the years 1971 to 1993.
Many of he trains and locomotives pictured are now scrapped, sold or in the hands of new private operators.
The period covers the Central West Expresses, the change from loco hauled cars to the XPT; the demise of the Mail train; and the two car 600 and 620 sets that worked such trains from Orange to Lithgow and Lithgow to Mudgee, especially Nos 86 and 87 passenger.
