"Rail Tales of New South Wales Volume 2"

By Tony Woodland

Paperback cover 44 pages colour & black/white photos

 INTRODUCTION

In the first volume I told of my association with railways especially at the places I lived in between 1943 and 1960.

Between 1960 and 1970 I only took  a slight interest in railways, hence the 10 year gap between the first book and this one, except for some memories. Sadly again not much was captured on camera as well.

I can still recall the use of 55 class on the Harden to Blayney line as well as the 32 class on the mail connection at Blayney. Out west the 36 class kept going around Parkes, Orange and Bathurst.

On the south in 1968-69 there were double headed 36 class especially on the 335 Saturday Freight from Sydney to Goulburn. I managed a photo of double 36 class at Picton taking water in the down refuge siding.

At Central the 38 class still hauled the up and down Moss Vale and Southern Highlands till late in Ortober 1969 and I did take one photo of 3811 with 3809's tender in the last week of No50 working. I also have a photo of the Intercapital Daylight at Campbelltown in 1968.

After starting work in the city in 1970 my interest was rekindled by seeing 3026T and 3085 as well as 1919 shunting around Sydney Yard and Darling Harbour. So I joined the NSWRTM. As well I purchased the books on the NSWR; the publication for 1955 Centenary and a copy og Century Plus Locomotives.

So, in this volume I wish to put some of my tours and some of my journeys with the NSWR and its successors into story and picture.
