EXCERPT - Early Tramways
On the 10th june 1878 the Adelaide and Suburban Tramway Company Limited opened the first horse tramway from Adelaide, Magill, Burnside and Walkerville. Other companies were also formed and by the yeear 1906 no less than 163 horse trams operated over 51 route miles.
In december 1906 State Parliament passed an Act authorising the formation of the Municipal Tramways Trust. The Trust, comprising the amalgamation of the seven tramways then operating within a radius of ten miles from the Adelaide GPO, held its first meeting in February 1907.
