In this presentation Greg Travers takes us on a journey starting in 1972 then transitions through the 80s, 90s, 2Ks and today. Early cine film has been digitally converted and compiled with other footage captured using the technology of the day including Video8, Hi-8, DV, DVCAM and now with HD formats.

As the programme unfolds we see images and scenes presented in almost chronological order emphasizing how Melbourne’s transport has changed over the years. Most lines are represented however the main focus is on the tram vehicles themselves. The routes as mentioned are those in operation at the time the activity was captured on film or video.

To start the show a brief history of the system is outlined over the 70s and 80s as we move into operations in the early 1990s and join a tour group using the last tram in regular service without sliding doors. The Australia day Cavalcade in 1992 follows, then regular operations up to August 1999, when the private sector franchise agreements commenced. There are also selected scenes taken from the “one-off” tour around Melbourne using the Sydney R class tram in October 2003 then many scenes of operations up to and including 2013. A huge selection of Melbourne trams are shown, spanning the horse tram era to the articulated C2 class Citadis five section cars of today.

We are certain every transport and tram enthusiast will enjoy “Just Trams in Melbourne” by Greg Travers.
