Along the Track in NSW - 1997 / 1999

This is the eleventh in the RailView series of trackside productions looking at regular freight and passenger operations in NSW and other Australian states.  RailView 11 looks at NSW operations from early 1997 until mid 1999; it continues on from RailView 8.

The Programme opens with scenes in the electrified area of the Northern Line, moves further north, around Maitland and Singleton, and then to “Murrurundi Mountain”.  The section concludes with footage on the South Maitland Railways coal line.

The next section of RailView 11 focuses on the Southern Line, at first nor farm from Sydney, and then further south, as the Canberra Oil train and the Austrac “Log Train” are followed.  The section finishes briefly in the Sydney Metropolitan area.

After some scenes on the Illawarra Line, we move to the last, and longest section, the Western Line.  We first of all look at operations in the electrified territory and then move beyond Lithgow, looking not only at mainline operations, but at two fairly remote branch lines, the Tottenham Line and the Gwabegar Line.

Locomotive classes seen in this video: 422,, 48, 80, 81, 82, 85, 86, 90, NR, CLP, DL, G, NA (ex W.A.), X and preserved steam.  XPT, Xplorer railcars and electric M.U.s also figure.

There is no narration and no music in Trains Alive productions.  The only sounds are of trains and the countryside they run through.  Scenes are numbered briefly and there are comprehensive Background Notes provided.

Taken on 3CCD Digital and mastered on Betacam SP.

Approximate run time: 100 minutes.
