The restoration of 3830 was a joint undertaking of the Powerhouse Museum, owners of the locomotive, and 3801 Limited, with steam trials commencing in September 1997.
This DVD covers the initial trial runs and heavy load trials on the Cockatoo Run followed by the recommission-ing and official launch trips, including the spectacular double headed tour with 3801 from Maitland to Sydney in October 1997.
Some of the early workings of the locomotive are featured as we witness 3830 racing through the Southern Highlands to Moss Vale, struggling up the grade to Thirlmere assisted by 2705 and amazing scenes of 3830 blasting up to Katoomba in atrocious weather with its 50th anniversary trip in September 1999.
We then join the crew for an unforgettable cab ride as 3830 storms up the grades of the Illawarra line with a heavy train from Wollongong to Sydney in 2003.
With its 85 minutes of fabulous and now historic steam footage this DVD is an essential addition to any rail enthusiast’s video library.
