SHEET P17 - OVERHEAD WIRES, MASTS, and PORTALS, c.1926
This sheet documents the typical masts and portals and their associated span and dropper wires, that were used with the introduction of the electrification of the NSWGR Sydney suburban rail system. Elevations and Sections are shown at 1:87.1 scale.
The sheet includes dimensioned details of the masts as used for portals with channel, trussed, and polygonal bridges, catenary termination masts and pull-off masts, including the typical (minimum) set-off of masts from the track. The types and sizes of the wires used, and the sizes of steel members, are noted. The arrangements of pull-off arms for straight (tangent) and curved (superelevated) track, for both positive and negative radial loads, are shown.
Details at 1:43.5 scale depict the fittings used, including insulators, pull-off arms, and
suspension fittings.
