“Just Queensland Sugar Train Highlights” presents memories of the Queensland sugar cane trains filmed from 1996 to 2011. Original film from 1996 was filmed on Video 8, Hi-8, Digital 8, then most film is in DVCAM with some recent footage in High Definition compressed to suit DVD. The film is presented in a format to suit both 4:3 and 16:9 screen sizes.

Sugar processing mills stretch northward from Harwood, near Grafton in New South Wales, to the north in Queensland at Mossman, north of Cairns. Rail plays an important part in moving large tonnages of cut cane from most of the 25 mills. There has been a trend toward closing mills and hauling cane over longer distances to neighbouring mills. Some 30-35 million tonnes is produced annually, with some 80 percent of this production being exported as raw sugar, with 70% going to East- Asia. The rail haulage task long ago surpassed the tonnages hauled in Victoria.

Locomotives from Comeng, Clyde, EIMCO, E M Baldwin, Walkers and others are used over rail lines consisting of 610 mm (2ft) with some 1067 mm (3 feet – 6 ins) gauge. All mills are visited and most loco types are included in these DVDs.

Narration is provided, added over the top of less sensitive train sounds. Hear and see the locomotives hard work, standing starts, pacing scenes and magnificent Queensland scenery in and around the valleys near and climbing the Great Dividing Range.

Some of the mills covered include:

Moreton, Isis, Millaquin, Bingera, Plane Creek, Marian, Racecourse, Pleystowe & Farleigh, Prosperpine, Inkerman, Pioneer, Kalamia, Invicta, Macknade, Victoria, Tully, Mourilyan, South Johnstone, Babinda, Mulgrave, Mossman.

We are sure that you will enjoy “Just Queensland Sugar Train Highlights” by Greg Travers, the ninth production in the “Just Trains” series from Train Pictures.
