RailView 7 - Along the Track in NSW - 1995 / 1996

The RailView series look at passenger and freight rail operations in NSW and other Australian States.  RailView 7 looks at NSW operations in the second half of 1995 and the first half of 1996.  It continues on from RailView 5.

The Programme opens with scenes in the spectacular countryside around the Queensland border in the McPherson ranges, north of Kyogle.  The West is the next area looked at, with the Kandos Branch featuring first.  This is followed by shots on the main Western Line and concludes with the Blue Mountains.

The  scene now changes to the Southern Line: locations vary from near Picton to the south of Goulburn, and include some hard locomotive working on the Cullerin Range.  The last section takes a look at operations on the Illawarra, first of all near Unanderra, with some BHP running included, and then ballast working further south.

Locomotives classes seen: 422, 48, 49, 80, 81, 82, 86, CLP, G, preserved steam and diesel and BHP locos.  XPTs, Endeavour railcars and interurban electrics also figure.

RailView 8 - Along the Track in NSW - 1996 / 1997

RailView 8 opens with scenes on the “Short South”, and quickly moves to more distant areas beyond Goulburn and as far as Bethungra.  The West is the area next looked at, with scenes ranging from the Blue Mountains to Dubbo, Broken Hill and, in particular, Parkes.

The scene now changes to the Sydney Metropolitan area, where we see some local freight “trip” working near Canterbury.  After three scenes on the Illawarra, we move to the last section of RailView 8, the Northern Line: here we look at working on the “Short North” and the near North Coast Line, and, after an absence of almost three years, we revisit the area around Werris Creek, where “Jumbos” (442s) on wheat haulage claim the limelight.  The programme ends with three scenes around Muswellbrook and Singleton.

Locomotives seen: 422, 442, 48, 49, 80, 81, 82, 86, NR, CLP, C, G and preserved steam and diesel (36, 421, 43, 44 and 45).  The XPT, Xplorer and Endeavour railcars and interurbans also figure.

There is no narration and no music in Trains Alive productions.  The only sounds are of trains and the countryside they run through.  Scenes are numbered briefly and there are  Background Notes provided.

Originals taken on video 3CCD Hi8 and digital and mastered on Betacam SP - Stereo Sound.
