Single Deck Survivors (DVD)

This video contains 80 minutes of now historical footage of the single deck Sydney suburban electric trains that survived the general withdrawal of this type of rolling stock early in January 1992. Commencing with views of these trains on their last day of widespread service on Friday 10th January 1992, including a driver’s view from one of the four trains involved in the Harbour Bridge Farewell ceremony, the video features the few remaining single deckers working to Carlingford, Pippita and Chullora during 1992 & early 1993.

A pair of redundant parcel vans that formed the occa-sional Equipment Recovery train that roamed the metropolitan network on weekends is followed, and a day is spent watching the uniquely painted “Sesqui” train running shuttles over the Harbour Bridge when it was closed for its 60th anniversary on Sunday, March 29th, 1992. The unmistakeable sound of A, F and H type bogies slipping and grinding on grades in wet conditions will bring memories flooding back to people who spent years travelling on this reliable form of transport. This video is the final chapter on Sydney’s single deck electric trains in regular service and is an essential addition to any rail enthusiast’s library.

Approximate run time: 83 minutes.
