This presentation covers action on both the broad and standard gauge tracks as we move south from Seymour to Melbourne in 2010. We also visit the Hanson (formerly the Apex) Quarry near Kilmore East, the grain silos at Sunshine, the Tottenham, Dynon and Appleton Dock yards, the locomotive maintenance facilities at Dynon and finally the Southern Cross (formerly Spencer St) railway station.

The standard gauge railway line between Seymour and Spencer St opened as part of the Sydney - Melbourne standard gauge rail project which became operational in 1962. The broad gauge lines between Seymour and essendon opened in 1872 and connected up for access to Spencer St via the then already existing broad gauge track to Geelong which opened for service in the 1850s.
