This presentation covers rail tours undertaken from Sydney to Port Kembla, Charbon, Illawarra/Main South, Mudgee and Robertson between the mid 1990s and 2019. Content is as follows:-
Port Kembla:- travel by 5910 to Port Kembla, around the balloon loop and thence to Kemira Valley by 5910, BHP’s D6 and AIS’s sadle tank steam locomotive.
Charbon:- travel 81 class to Lithgow thence twin 48 class to Charbon.
Illawarra/Main South:- travel 421/49 class to Moss Vale via Wollongong. Attach 442 class and visit Berrima Cement Works and South Marulan.
Mudgee:- travel the Mudgee line powered by Great Northern GM22/27 and NSWRTM 4201.
Robertson:- view NSWRTM’s 3642, 44211 and 4306 heading south to Waterfall. (Further action with 3642 will be presented in ‘Train Tours Part 2’.)
Other locomotives and passenger equipment seen in the course of these tours includes BHP’s ex-442, ex-45 and D classes, Freight Rails 80, 81, 85 and 86 classes and CityRail’s interurbans.
