This presentation is a follow on to the earlier video of the same theme, namely ‘Trains In Trouble’. Similar in structure to the latter, ‘Trains in Trouble 2’ details 10 separate incidents of train drivers experiencing difficulties in the course of their normal operating day, and the pressures this places on them, their equipment and the rail system.
Where possible I have provided video before, during and after each incident. These ten incidents are:
#1 Complete failure of GL108 between Warrimo and Valley Heights due to hot rectifier diodes and the subsequent overheating of the traction equipment on KL82 as this Southern Shorthaul Railway’s RIC train struggles to reach the down refuge at Valley Heights.
#2 Derailment of a Pacific National grain train in Junee Yard and the subsequent recovery efforts.
#3 Flat/scaled wheels at Palona on a NSWRTM Western Wanderer tour train (4201/4520/4490) due to a carriage handbrake being left applied at Orange.
#4 Main alternator failure on Pacific National’s 8222 (one of three 82 class powering this 7,200 tonne coal train) between Newdell Junction and Mt Owen.
#5 Combined working of two sets of triple 81 Class powered 32 wagon empty coal trains seen coupling up at Wallerawang.
#6 Ground relays on NSWRTM’s 44211 working on a tour train in conjunction with 42219 and 4916 on the Marulan South branch.
#7 Starting difficulties with Australian Railway Group (ARG) CLF1/GM44 at Werris Creek silos.
#8 BNSF (Burlington Northern & Santa Fe) GE Dash 9-4400CWs in trouble with low fuel levels at Stanwood Loop, Washington State, USA.
#9 Problems with the Gunnedah portion of CountryLink’s Northern Table Lands Express beyond Werris Creek.
#10 Problems with sanding/super series wheel slip control on a Pacific National 3040 tonne 40 wagon loaded grain train climbing through Ardglen.
