Southern Regions.

In this second volume, we take a final look at the trains working in the Southern Regions of Western Australia. We first travel over to Pinjarra to see the Bauxite trains in action as they work between Alcoa`s Calcine refinery and the refinery at Kwinana. While there we take a look at the coal trains which pass through the town daily. Then it is back down to Brunswick Junction for another look at the alumina trains, travelling between the port at Bunbury and the various refineries.

We also take another look at the grain trains and locomotives working along the lower section of the Great Southern Railway during 2010. With ARG losing the grain contract with CBH these trains will stop running by mid 2012.

While in the Albany region we take another look at the Woodchip train as it works between Albany and the mill at Mirambeena and the different classes of locomotive that have been seen on the train over the last 12 months.

Leaving the GSR behind we travel north east to take a look at the two southern branch lines out of Merredin and the grain trains working these tier 3 lines. We first head to Narembeen to catch up with the trains there before going to Corrigin to chase the empty trains between Ardath and Corrigin then the loaded trains as they make the slow trip back to Merredin. Due to these two branches being under threat of closure we spend a good amount of time in the region chasing the trains while it is still possible to do so.

Finally back over to the GSR and follow the rail train to Albany on the 11th December, departing on the 12th for Wagin. One of these locos never made it there.

Technical information on all the locomotives shown is detailed within the presentation.

Approximate run time: 120 minutes.
