INTRODUCTION
The railways and collieries of the Greta and South Maitland Districts of New South Wales excompassed a vast area extending from the City of maitland, westerly to Greta and Branxton, then southerly to embrace Rothbury, the City of Cessnock and the towns of Aberdare, Bellbird, Heddon Greta, Paxton, Millfield, Kitchener, Neath, Abermain, Weston, Kurri Kurri, Stanford Main, Pelaw Main and East Greta. Many of the towns were named after their respective collieries.
