The construction of a railway in the latter part of the 19th century provided new settlers with reliable transport through the densely forested, and hilly terrain. When the Dandenong-Port Albert railway was opened on 13 Jan 1892 it became known as the Great Southern Railway, and is still referred to as such to this day. This book takes a look back at the operations and infrastructure that serviced the richly fertile Southern Gippsland region.
